# The 4 C’s of Continuity: Control, Confirm, Conflict, Change

By [Alex Sopa (AlexsOptions)](https://thestrat.ai/docs/alex-sopa/) · Updated October 22, 2026

**Definition** **The 4 C’s of continuity** are the four questions you ask of the [participation groups](https://thestrat.ai/docs/participation-groups/) at all times. **Control:** which group or groups control price direction, and for how long? **Confirm:** are the groups confirming each other? **Conflict:** are some going up and others down? **Change:** is one group changing the continuity of another?

[FTFC](https://thestrat.ai/docs/full-timeframe-continuity/) is one answer: every group confirms, so control is clear. Most of the time the answer is mixed.

## Control

[Figure: The control rule. Any other mix leaves only the 60 in control: the others are too conflicted.]

The monthly group shows the big move, the daily group who is in control today, the 60 who is in control right now. Each new 60 confirms or changes control: [the flip](https://thestrat.ai/docs/the-flip/). See [override](https://thestrat.ai/docs/override/).

“For how long” matters. A group’s control ends when its bar ends: a weekly signal late on Friday has no time left. See [exhaustion risk](https://thestrat.ai/docs/exhaustion-risk/).

## Confirm

Confirmation runs as a cascade. Each new week reconfirms or negates the month. Each day, the daily and 60-minute groups reconfirm or negate the week and the month. See [confirming and negating](https://thestrat.ai/docs/confirming-negating/).

[Figure: FSLR, Jan 17–24 2017, real data (Alpaca SIP), built from the 30-minute stream. The week, the day and the 60 negate the month.]

## Conflict

One or two candles a different color than the others: [conflict](https://thestrat.ai/docs/conflict/). If only the 60 is red, with the day, the week, and the month green, that is profit taking, for certain.

[Figure: Month, week and day stay green. Only the 60 goes red: profit taking.]

If the day and the 60 are red but the week and the month are green, today and right now have a more aggressive seller: the override.

## Change

Is one group changing the continuity of another? When continuity changes, every participant on the wrong side of that open is at a loss.

[Figure: MAT, Jan 23–26 2017, real data (Alpaca SIP), built from the 30-minute stream. An example of **change**: one gap flips the week and the month.]

Look ahead. Before every flip ask: if it goes red, what would we know? If it goes green? If it goes inside and up? See [actionable signals + FTFC](https://thestrat.ai/docs/signals-and-ftfc/).
